Mulligan's Pub (Cedar Rapids)

Yawn...
Yet another Cedar Rapids Irish themed sports bar. The ONLY reason I am wasting my time and yours is to warn you off from this particular establishment. We found ourselves at Mulligan's for a going away party for a business colleague of Jeff's. The place was hopping for 6:00 on a Thursday night. This seems to be a major watering hole for paunchy middle aged men with receding hairlines, golf shirts and to my horror, white tennis shoes. The staff was dressed in clothing better suited for laundry day. I wouldn't even go to the grocery store in what these gals were wearing. Mulligan's has 16 beers on tap, and none of them interesting.
I still wasn't ready to call this place a total waste of time until I tried the food. Jeff ordered the Portobello Mushroom Fries---Sliced, breaded, and fried Portobello strips with ranch dipping sauce and the Reuben---sliced corned beef with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing all piled on grilled marble rye bread and fries. Although Jeff liked the sandwich, the Mushroom Fries had a strange dirty dishwater flavor that was quite unappetizing. I wanted to try the chicken wings, one of Mulligan’s specialties, but I didn’t want anything spicy. I asked our server what the mildest wing sauce I could order was and she told me the Buffalo Ranch coated wings, so I ordered those. When my wings arrived, I tried one and it was very spicy. I flagged down our server and asked her once again if this was indeed the mildest sauce that Mulligans had. She began to get flustered and said she misunderstood my question. Neither my husband or myself can see how I could have been any more clear in my request. Our server then said that the mildest sauce is the Guiness Barbecue sauce. I had her return the wings to the kitchen and bring me back the BBQ wings. When she returned, she placed a basket of dry, un-sauced wings in front of me with a little plastic cup of BBQ sauce. I asked her why the kitchen didn’t sauce the wings? She replied that they wanted to make sure I like the sauce. At this point, I am annoyed by the server and the kitchen staff. I attempted to eat the dry, unappetizing wings by dipping them in the sauce. They too had the same dirty dishwater flavor and I was starting to think that the oil Mulligan's is deep frying in is dirty and old.
For a lame atmosphere, weak beer list, poor service, and questionable food I award Mulligan’s Pub
