I have lived all over the country and have spent time in nearly every state. I can honestly tell you that the best breakfast in America is found at Tempo Cafe in Chicago. I can't remember the first time Jeff and I wandered into Tempo searching for breakfast. Was it 5 years ago? Anyway, it doesn't matter. What matters is that from then on, every other Breakfast has been measured up against Tempo's. This sunny corner Greek cafe has large clean tables and booths and you are greeted right away by one of the owners, a well dressed lovely woman who (if there is a table available) leads you to a table and hands you the menus. Almost immediately, an observant, efficient server is at your table to fill coffee cups or get you some juice. The most challenging thing is what to order. Maybe you want a Crabmeat Omelette with a side of potatoes and greek toast with homemade marmalade? Or maybe a Fresh Blueberry Waffle with warm syrup and a generous handful of plump ripe fresh blueberries and a double shot of expresso? No matter what you decide on, you will be pleased at the fresh, homemade taste, generous portions and reasonable prices all given with excellent service in a comfortable atmosphere. Beware, they only accept cash. (smart eh?) But there is an ATM on site if you forget.
For us, every Chicago visit includes breakfast at Tempo and I am awarding them
